This is from John M., who is not on the O29 listserve but has been coming to meetings. He asked that I forward this for him. Also, could somebody add him to the listserve? His e-mail is rennipsmj at yahoo.com. Thanks.

To Members of Oct. 29th Coalition,

I think it is important to vote in this particular demand of stopping the scapegoating of
Arabs and Muslims. Just today in the Boston Metro there was a newsbrief about Mitt Romney
wire tapping Mosques. These are scary times for Arab and Muslim people. Chris was just
saying the other day that the Arab and Muslim groups she contacted were against the war, yet were afraid to get involved. This is all the more reason to include this demand. We need to let them know that we stand behind them. That they will be safe. And that they are welcomed.
The U.S. government uses this tactic of racist scapegoating to help fuel the support for the war. To keep the war machine churning the government needs billions of dollars, ( Hence Money for Human Need not for War. ) The government needs more troops. ( Hence Recruiters out of Our Schools. ) The Government needs at least some of the public behind it's self-serving war effort. This is the key role that racist scapegoating plays in fostering and maintaining support for their oil war. We should include a demand to end racist scape-
goating of Arabs and Muslims. These four demands all relate directly to key components of the U.S. war in Iraq.
We cannot have a demand for every injustice in the world. However, to build a mass antiwar movement here and to end the war on Iraq, we must actively fight against anti-arab racism. We can not be quiet about this issue. It should be the fourth demand of the demonstration.
I welcome all discussions on this matter.
