[O29] Minutes for the September 15th meeting of the October 29th Coalition

Hi all,
Below are the minutes for the September 15th meeting of the
October 29th Coalition. Please let me know if anything here is
in error or if anything is missing. Also, I was wondering if the
Program Committee will be meeting.

Minutes: October 29th Coalition, September 7th Planning Meeting, 6:00 PM at
the office of Mass Global Action

Facilitator- Amee

Intros and Announcements: Between 20 and 25 participants in the meeting

Next Meeting Location and Time- Open discussion
Sunday meetings at the Mass Global Action office would be difficult and
expensive if not impossible. A consensus was reached on having the next
meeting on Thursday, September 15th at 6:00 PM at the MGA office. Having
that as the regular meeting day will be discussed more broadly during the
week.
Next Program Committee meeting- Open discussion
No proposal was made and after discussion Peter volunteered to pull a
meeting together based on what worked for everyone on the Program Committee.
Protest Anti-Gay Conference on October 29th – Mark
Coalition heard a report from representatives of Queer Today on the upcoming
protest against a Conference of Anti-Gay bigots. Proposal for October 29th
Coalition to endorse the protest and link with it during the march as it
passes by the conference location. Proposal to advertise the support of the
October 29th Coalition on the Queer Today web site.

Discussion: Proposal to endorse protest agreed to by all. Proposal to
include a link on the October 29th Web site carried. Proposal to include
this protest prominently on the Web site with an explanation of what it is
about was tabled. Proposal to prominently display the endorsement of the
October 29th Coalition on the Queer Today Web site and literature carried
overwhelmingly.

Outreach – Various Outreach Committee members
Mondays were proposed for outreach meetings. A new demand was proposed: Fund
Hurricane Relief- Not War! Proposal for the September 24th action to be
placed at the bottom of the October 29th flier. Proposal for the Call to
Action to appear over the list of organizations supporting the Call and to
get other groups to sign on to the call. Proposal to get the flier out to
students and get announcements of the Action on the radio. Report made on
drafting a targeted endorsement and participation letter. Proposal to use an
unmonitored listserv for now: o29 at massglobalaction.org and have the
Coalition assign a monitor if the listserv gets abused.

Discussion: Mondays at 6:00 PM adopted for Outreach meetings. Proposal for
the new demand linking hurricane relief was defeated by a narrow margin. All
agreed to put September 24th at bottom of flier. All agreed to get more
groups to sign on to the call to action. Proposal to amend the Call to
Action to strengthen the gender based analysis. Proposal to amend the
Statement of the Coalition and not the Call to Action to strengthen the
gender based analysis. Proposal to amend the Call to Action carried. Jason
agreed to do a PSA for the radio stations. Amee agreed to work with Sarah on
the targeted endorsement and participation letter. Proposal for an
unmonitored listserv for now adopted without debate.


Protest Permits – Karen
Sit down meeting with the city of Boston coming up soon. Proposal to have
several members of the Coalition at this meeting.

Discussion: Agreed to have a representative of UJP and IAC at the meeting
along with Karen. Youth volunteers for the meeting included Chris, Nate,
Mark, and Sholom.

October 8th Fund Raiser- Nate
Proposal to have a fundraiser with music, poetry, art, etc. at Spontaneous
Celebrations on October 8th. The Arts, Music, Fund Raising Committee to
coordinate the event.

Discussion: All excited and supportive of event. Discussion on the need to
have an account to deposit funds. No account was volunteered. Idea was
raised to open up a checking account for the Coalition. Proposal to pass the
hat collecting donations for the stall person carried. $85- was collected.
Proposal to make a budget that would include this collection carried.
