john's process, described below, makes me want to take bets as to how many folks will send requests for removal from this list during the first polemic.

but my mother taught me that gambling was bad.

all by way of saying that i like jason's idea of running the email list better.

Hi folks,
I would prefer a loosely monitored listserv where everything
goes out to the list for now. We should withhold contributions
only after a discussion in a meeting and the Coalition feels
that the listserv has been abused. We need to have as much
discussion and debate over the listserv as possible which will
make our meetings more efficient and effective. Sometimes debates
are attacks on the political positions of one or more of the
participants in the debate and that is entirely appropriate.
No one should be excluded from the discussion. Those who are
not conducting themselves in a civil manner will pay the political
price for their lack of civility and in turn will be judged
accordingly. If it gets too far out of hand then we can take it up
in the meeting and decide on what action to take. The same goes
for the oct29.org web site as well. I think that this
listserv will be an important tool for us as we move forward.

In Solidarity,
John Harris

Hi folks,

As an activist involved in the coalition to organize an anti-war rally in
Boston on October 29th, you've been subscribed to this new email list
("listserv").

You can send email to this list at: o29 at massglobalaction.org .

I will be moderating this list for the time being. As a moderated email
list, people can only post information directly relevant to the organizing
of the October 29th rally--minutes from our meetings, announcements of our
meetings, requests for volunteers, logistical information about things like
the status of our march permits, calls for musicians, fundraising calls,
etc.

Posts that are simply crossposts or forwards of information that can be
found elsewhere--like the latest news from Iraq for instance, or essays
about how bad our government is--will not get sent out to the list.

Long-drawn out debates that should be conducted in our regular meetings, or
ad hominem attacks on other coalition members, will not get sent out to the
list.

If there is sufficient demand, we can always set up an "o29-discuss" list
where people that are into it can post/read 50 news items or arguments or
flames a day to their hearts content. But for now, we will try to make due
with the one list.

So hope this list will be useful for folks, and see you all at the next
meeting.

Regards,

Jason Pramas
MGA
