We are seeking volunteers to be peacekeepers on October 29.
What does that mean? Peacekeepers are volunteers from within the
movement
who help to de-escalate conflicts and to maintain the flow of a strong,
empowering
demonstration. If conflicts arise, whether with police,
counter-protesters, or among fellow
demonstrators [not that those of us on the left never disagree :) ],
peacekeepers are there
to help defuse the conflict and keep things calm.

Peacekeepers also help to keep basic logistics running, by letting
people knw where to go along the march
route, as well as answering some basic questions about where to find
bathrooms, etc. Our goal is NOT to be police nor to give orders, but to
work collaboratively toward the shared goals of a strong demonstration.

We ask that peacekeepers be people who are not taking another role in
running the demonstration. You should be able to give your attention to
peacekeeping, not splitting it between peacekeeping and another duty
like
soliciting donations, conducting chants, leading a contingent, etc.

If you're interested in peacekeeping, we need you to come to a training
either on THURSDAY at 6:15 pm to 8 pm or FRIDAY at 9 AM TO 10:30 AM.
Please
let us know know which you will attend by contacting ELIZABETH LEONARD.
 If you
already have experience peacekeeping, then it is probably okay for you
to
skip the training, but please, still let us know if you're coming by
contacting elisa_02128 at yahoo.com.
